Don't let Iowa raise electric rates to subsidize new reactors

The nuclear industry’s dirty secret is that it cannot afford to build new reactors without public handouts.

In Iowa, MidAmerican Energy lobbyists are working hard to push a bill, House File 561, through the legislature. This bill would allow MidAmerican to raise electricity rates on Iowans so that it can fund the construction of risky new nuclear reactors. What's worse is that MidAmerican gets to keep the money -- even if it cancels the project.

A vote in the Iowa Senate could come as soon as tomorrow.

Please email your state senator now and urge him or her to oppose a rate increase for nuclear reactors.
