Tell Obama: Cutting corners for TransCanada is unacceptable

Protesters at the White HouseTransCanada is splitting the dirty and dangerous Keystone XL tar sands oil pipeline into two segments in an attempt to avoid a full environmental review and to fast-track the southern half from Cushing, Oklahoma, to the Gulf Coast in Texas.

In little more than 60 days, President Obama has moved 180 degrees in the wrong direction. He rejected the permit for Keystone XL and insisted on a full and fair federal review process on January 18. Then, on March 22, he stood in front of TransCanada pipe and ordered an expedited federal review of the southern leg, promising to "cut through the red tape" and "get it done" -- in effect, putting the interests of Big Oil above the health and safety of people and our climate.

Grassroots pressure compelled President Obama to reject Keystone XL the first time around. We must hold the president accountable now.

Tell President Obama to stop cutting corners for TransCanada and put the health and safety of people first.

President Obama:
Don't expedite the approval of the southern portion of the Keystone XL pipeline or cut any corners on the review process. We call on you to stand firm on your rejection of this dirty and dangerous pipeline and to promote real, lasting climate solutions. Please put our health and shared climate first.
