City Cycling 4/12 - Bethesda, MD

Registration for this class is reserved for Montgomery County residents ONLY

This 3-hour class is designed to teach adults how to ride on city streets comfortably and confidently! The class is divided by skill level and each group learns different skills and techniques and goes on an educational ride highlighting different aspects of city riding. Every City Cycling class includes both groups below:

The "Intro to City Cycling" group learns confident control of the bike in all situations. These are techniques and skills you will use every time you ride, guaranteed. This group goes for a ride on a nearby trail and learns about dealing with traffic, clear communication, proper use of trails, and the trail-to-road transition.

The "Confident City Cycling" group learns advanced bike handling maneuvers. These techniques will minimize harm in specific dangerous situations. This group goes for a ride on the roads and learns about bike infrastructure, lane control, communicating with drivers, and effective road behavior.

This class is for you if:

  • You are at least 16 years old (16-17 year olds should be accompanied by an adult).
  • You know how to ride a bike without assistance.
  • You are a capable rider who wants to gain more confidence and ride on city streets safely and comfortably.

Students must provide their own bike and bike helmet. Helmet use is mandatory. We recommend bringing along water, a snack, and weather-appropriate clothing.

Clipless pedals and toe clips are not recommended for students in the "Confident" group.

This class will be rescheduled in case of inclement weather. Please enter a cell phone number below to ensure that you receive any messages about rescheduling.

Online study is RECOMMENDED for this class!

Please visit www.bikeed.org and complete the online course. This online course will provide a solid basis for the on-bike instruction in our class. The course is not short, and may take upwards of 2-3 hours, so please do not wait until the last minute!
