President Obama’s recent trip to Asia to bolster the TPP seemed to have the opposite effect, with many countries cautiously hitting the pause button, with even the U.S. Trade Representative Michael Froman admitting, "There's further work to do across the board, on market access and rules...”
And despite the corporate money and pressure pouring into Congress, Fast Track Authority – needed to advance the deal in the United States – is moving nowhere. Analysts are saying that Fast Track will almost definitely not come to Congress in 2014, and some are speculating that a new bill might not be worth introducing until 2017.
At Global Exchange, we’re not celebrating quite yet. While the fight is stalled, we won’t give up until it’s over. We’ll be spending the summer keeping the momentum going, until we have millions more voices raised against this agreement.
