As we close out the remaining weeks of 2012, Global Exchange is also beginning to gear up for our 25th anniversary next year. Before we look forward to another 25 years of social justice activism, let us look back at what we have been up to in the last few months.
Also, we’ve extended the deadline to give someone a special holiday gift of membership to Global Exchange and they'll unwrap a gift to a better future and a more just world. Order before midnight this Sunday, December 16.
Stick it to Super PACS
Just days before the most expensive U.S. election of all time we used email, phone, and social media to clog the gears of the ominous Super PACs. Thousands came together to put a wrench in the gears of Super PACs that were drowning out everything except big-money corporate speech. Stay connected with our Elect Democracy campaign as we go from challenging SuperPAC millions to lobbyist billions in 2013.
The election's four deepest democracy victories you missed
While many were excited about the progressive victories seen in the outcome of the 2012 U.S. election, Global Exchange's Community Rights Director, Shannon Biggs points out the four deepest democracy victories you might have missed. Away from the flashy graphics of the pundits, real victories were made by real people asserting their rights on Election Day against the powers that be.
Fair Trade your Halloween
For 31 days in October, we came up with 31 ways to go Fair Trade for Halloween. Fair Traders across the country took part in fun activities from eating Fair Trade bananas, hosting movie screenings, baking Fair Trade goodies, recycling Halloween costumes, and of course passing out Fair Trade chocolate to trick-or-treaters.
24 years of Reality Tours memories
For 24 years, Global Exchange has been sending people all over the world on Reality Tours to Meet the People, Learn the Facts, and Make a Difference. Throughout those years, those Reality Tours participants have often times come back inspired and have shared their photos with us to tell the stories of the people they met who have impacted their lives forever. We have compiled those memories in our new Reality Tours video in hopes to inspire others to join on a Reality Tour.
From Pakistan to Gaza
From meeting with drone attack victims in Pakistan to an emergency delegation to Gaza, Global Exchange co-founder Medea Benjamin was there. Read about the delegation of Americans that traveled to Pakistan to protest the drone attacks carried out by the Obama Administration and the 20-person group that traveled to Gaza to bring aid and witness the devastation from the November Israeli assault.
What About Peace? goes to Haiti
For six years the What About Peace? contest has attracted youth ages 14-20 years old to creatively answer the question, ‘What About Peace?’. This October, a Global Exchange Reality Tour headed to Haiti and graciously agreed to bring five of our favorite What About Peace? paintings that have been submitted over the years to a school in Haiti. Read the reactions of students in Port-au-Prince.
