We will also discuss international advocacy work for Rights of Nature at the upcoming UN Earth Summit (Rio + 20) in Brazil. Learn more here.
Local Food Freedom in Grass Valley, CA (and beyond)
Who decides what food we eat, grow and sell? Is it corporations or citizens? Our basic right to grow food locally, share raw milk with friends and neighbors, enter into contract with local farmers for healthy food, or simply buy an herbal cough syrup can no longer be taken for granted.
Local Food Freedom Nevada County is inviting Nevada County residents to join us on March 23rd at the Nevada City Vets hall for an evening of dialogue and call to action and to explore how we can assert our rights as a community and protect our right to healthy foods! Shannon Biggs will be speaking at the event along with a local farmer and health care advocate from the Nevada City/Grass Valley community. For more information, go here.
- Listen to Shannon Biggs speak about the right to local food sovereignty on KVMR radio Thursday, March 15th at 2 p.m.
Rights of Mother Earth: Restoring Indigenous Life Ways Responsibility & Respect
How do we re-orient the dominant industrialized societies so that they pursue human well being in a manner that contributes to the health of our Mother Earth instead of undermining it? In other words – how do we live in harmony with Nature?
Global Exchange’s Shannon Biggs is presenting at and participating in a 3-day conference that has been scheduled at Haskell Indian Nations University, in Lawrence, Kansas, April 4-6, 2012 with Indigenous Peoples together from the North and Global South to learn more and to have a discourse about the Rights of Mother Earth movement. We invite humanity to come together to improve our collective human behavior so that we may develop a more sustainable world. For more information or to register, visit their website.
Upcoming Democracy School in Santa Monica, CA
Join us in Santa Monica, CA April 20th-21st to learn about the history and structure of corporate power, how the current regulatory system prohibits us from saying ‘No’ to unwanted corporate activity and how we can change that by asserting community’s rights at Democracy School. In Santa Monica citizens are seeking to assert their right to live in a sustainable community. For more, visit the campaign’s web page.
