Israel Apartheid Week
The annual Israel Apartheid Week (IAW) will take place this year from Feb 26 – March 3 in communities and on campuses across the globe. The aim of IAW is to educate people about the nature of Israel as an apartheid state and to build BDS campaigns as part of a growing global boycott, divestment, sanctions (BDS) movement.
Global Exchange’s Dalit Baum will be speaking during the Edmonton, AB IAW at Occupy the Occupation!: Corporations, Profit and the Israeli Occupation of Palestine on Thursday, March 8.
Occupy and BDS
Recently, at the Occupy Oakland General Assembly which endorsed BDS, supporters made the link between the occupy movement and the fight for justice in Palestine.
Former GX staffer, Allison Deger, reported that comments included "I am fully in support of this proposal ... U.S. imperialism is the biggest oppression in the entire world and Israel is their number one client." And "I am indebted to Rachel Corrie for giving me the courage to stand in solidarity with oppressed people" on Mondoweiss.
Participants also made the connections between chemical dispersants used in the police raid on Occupy Oakland and in Palestinian communities.
News, activities, and speakers continue to be added to the agenda of #OccupyAIPAC in the lead up to the conference in Washington DC March 2-6.
Timed to coincide with the annual AIPAC policy conference in March 2012, the #OccupyAIPAC summit will be a long weekend of teach-ins, cultural performances, protests and creative direct actions, and a sneak preview of the forthcoming film Roadmap to Apartheid. Our Saturday conference will feature educational panels on Iran, Palestine, the Arab Uprisings and the Occupy Movement (see the list of speakers). Read more about it.
