imageOn October 26th, Community Rights Program Director Shannon Biggs was invited to speak at two events at Occupy Wall Street in NYC along with fellow community-rights organizer, Ben Price from CELDF.

They were asked to share their experiences working with US communities to assert their rights and subordinate corporations to democratic, citizen-led decision making with those occupying Liberty Plaza.

imageOne of the most important questions coming out of the Occupy movement is who should have the ultimate deciding power – corporations or citizens? The Community Rights organizing approach seeks to rewrite the very rules under which our system currently operates, by changing law to shift the conversation to be around RIGHTS.

Global Exchange would like to thank the organizers at Occupy Wall Street for inviting Shannon to speak in New York and generating new ideas for paths forward.
