News & Action
Dear Friends,

As we celebrated a long weekend and remembered those who have lost their lives in war, we hear that Israeli Navy has attacked the 6 ships of the Gaza flotilla which were carrying humanitarian aid to the 1.5 million people living under occupation in the Gaza strip.

At this point we are hearing only from the Israelis that the ships were intercepted and that anywhere from 10 -19 activists have been killed and dozens wounded.  The remaining activists have been taken into custody in Israel and we are only hearing one version of the events.  But a few things are known:

  • Israeli soldiers invaded these ships in international waters, breaking international law!
  • The Israeli government approved the boarding of these aid ships by an elite unit of commandoes armed with automatic weapons!
  • Activists were killed and injured.

This must be a turning point for U.S. policy toward Israel.

We need to hear from our President and our Congress a STRONG CONDEMNATION of this abominable attack and it must be accompanied by action: an immediate cut off of all aid to Israel and sustained pressure on Israel to lift the siege of Gaza.

Call for an immediate inquiry.
Call on Israel to lift the siege of Gaza.
Support an immediate halt to arms supplies for Israel.

We are calling on peace-loving people everywhere to:

  1. Join us in calling on Obama to condemn the attacks: http://www.globalexchange.org/flotilla.
  2. Organize or join protests in your communities against Israel's attack on the humanitarian flotilla. Call for the aid workers to be released and allowed to complete their humanitarian mission. Find events near you and post your event details.
  3. Call or sit in your elected officials offices and demand that they condemn Israel, cut off all U.S. aid (learn more about the deadly impact of U.S. military aid to Israel), and demand that Israel lift the siege of Gaza.

Don't let up - now is the time our voices must make a difference.

Thank you, as always, for your work on behalf of peace and justice,
