THE REVOLUTION FOR LOCAL CONTROL:
Global Exchange's Shannon Biggs and Kevin Danaher and Envision Spokane campaigner, Chad Nicholson, spoke at the Wild and Scenic Environmental Film Festival in Nevada City, CA January 16, attended by over 5,000 revelers.
The workshop, entitled "The Revolution for Local Control," demonstrated the power of communities asserting their right to make decisions that affect them. The discussion began with a showing of a short film by Jeremy Kagen documenting the plight of Blaine Township, PA. Residents took on Big Coal in order to save their town from destruction by passing a rights based ordinance. That video is now available on youtube at:
