Take Action to Stand up for DC!

In August, DC's utility regulators did the right thing. The Public Service Commission unanimously rejected a bid by Chicago-based energy giant Exelon to take over local utility company Pepco. The commissioners said the deal was not in the public interest. It would threaten us with higher bills and harm the city’s commitment to clean, renewable energy. Thousands of DC residents voiced their opposition, and over half of DC's ANCs passed resolutions opposing Exelon's plan.

But, despite the clear rejection by both regulators and the public, Mayor Muriel Bowser cut a back-room deal with Exelon to revive the merger plan. Nothing in the Mayor's deal changes the fundamental reasons that Exelon's plan is a bad deal for DC. And the shady circumstances around it reek of corrupt politics.

We now have until Wednesday, December 23rd to urge the Public Service Commission to do the right thing again -- and reject the Exelon takeover.
