The Welcoming Congregation Bulletin

November 2013

Tools, actions, stories, and news to help you and your congregation stay connected to the vital ministry of building welcoming and inclusive communities where all people can bring their full authentic selves.

A tool to increase your welcome

Welcoming Congregation Map Tool

The Institute for Welcoming Resources helps faith communities, particularly Christian ones, become more affirming of people of all sexual orientations and gender identities.

Their Welcoming Congregations map tool lists congregations of many denominations (including UU) that have made a commitment to LGBTQ welcome. Use the tool to find local Welcoming Congregations from other denominations, reach out, and get into relationship and partnership!

An action to live it loud and proud

Honor Transgender Day of Remembrance

Transgender Day of Remembrance is November 20. How will you and/or your congregation honor this important day? Check out the UUA’s resource page for ideas and resources.

p.s. The third annual online Transgender Day of Remembrance service hosted by the Church of the Larger Fellowship is on Sunday, November 17 at 9:00pm ET, for the first time in partnership with the transgender-led coalition TDOR Unite!

A story to inspire your ministry

Welcoming Those Who Serve

Today is Veteran’s Day—how welcoming is your congregation to veterans, people currently serving in the military, and their family and friends? Kimberly Paquette shares her story of military life and the lifesaving support of a UU congregation.

p.s. Check out the Church of the Larger Fellowship’s military ministry resources for more on how to be a Welcoming Congregation to military members, veterans, and their families.

Disablity/Ability Action Program

The UUA is excited to announce a partnership with Equual Access, a UU organization that promotes equality and access for people with disabilities, to create a program to help congregations become fully welcoming and inclusive of people of all abilities. Find out more!
