March 2013: Next Steps for Compassionate Immigration Reform!

Dear Friends,

More than sixty congregations have signed up to do in-district advocacy visits with their federal representatives ‘at home’ work periods from March 25th to April 5th  to call for compassionate immigration reform.  Learn how you can participate below.

Following our advocacy, we’re calling on UUs around the country to join in witness for immigrant justice for a major national day of rallies and vigils on April 10th being coordinated by a large coalition of immigrants rights groups, faith and labor organizations.  Our partners have asked us to be out there in our “Love” shirts.

Lastly we want you to know that grants are available for congregational immigrant justice ministry  -- the E Pluribium Unum Prize is accepting nominations for initiatives that promote successful immigrant integration.

The Road From Phoenix: Compassionate Immigration Reform: You’ll find all the resources you need at www.StandingontheSideofLove.org/CIR including our webinar with Jennifer Toth, Standing on the Side of Love Campaign Manager, who explains step by step what to do on your visit and after the visit as well as talking points and tips for in-district advocacy visits.

Ask others in your congregation and community to call your representatives after your visit to amplify your message.  Consider holding a vigil or visibility event outside your representative’s district office after your visit and notify the media.

Let’s Keep Our Momentum Going! After our advocacy with representatives we will be taking our ‘Love’  message  out in a witness at the capitol and in the streets and public squares around the country on April 10th.   With our partners, we are changing hearts and minds!  Find and/or register your event here

Together we can achieve compassionate, humane, inclusive immigration reform  that provides a path to citizenship and includes all families.

E Pluribus Unum Prizes: Recognizing Exceptional Immigrant Integration Initiatives:  The E Pluribus Unum Prizes program awards exceptional initiatives that promote successful immigrant integration. This year, we will award three $50,000 prizes and one Corporate Leadership Award.

This year’s application period for the program is now open through April 12, 2013.  Learn more and apply online: http://www.migrationinformation.org/integrationawards/.
